How to Take Better Airbnb Photos and Attract More Guests

When it comes to listing on booking platforms, first impressions are everything. Guests often scroll quickly through dozens of listings, and the one factor that stops them in their tracks is photography. Quality images not only showcase your property at its best, they also help you attract more bookings and build trust with potential guests.

This guide shares both simple hosting tips and practical photography know-how, so you can capture your property in a way that makes it stand out.

Shoot in Landscape Format
For Airbnb listings, landscape orientation works best. The platform displays images in a wide, horizontal format, so photos taken in portrait can appear cropped or with large blank spaces on the sides. Landscape photos fill the screen better, give a broader sense of the room, and allow potential guests to “step into” the space more easily. Reserve portrait orientation only for detail shots, such as styled corners, artwork, or close-ups of unique features.

Use a Wide Lens to Capture More of the Room
Guests want to see the whole space, not just part of it. A wide lens helps you fit more of the room into each photo, so the property feels open and inviting.

  • If you’re using a camera: look for a lens in the 16–24mm range (or 10–18mm if you have a crop-sensor camera). This gives a broad view without stretching the room out of shape.

  • If you’re using a phone: most modern smartphones have a “wide” or “ultra-wide” option built into the camera. Use this mode when taking full room shots, then switch back to the standard lens for close-ups and details.

Wide shots give a sense of space, but don’t overdo it. If the lens is too extreme, rooms can look distorted, which may leave guests disappointed when they arrive.

Include a Variety of Shots
Don’t just rely on wide room shots. A close-up of a coffee cup on the balcony, a bedside lamp glowing in the evening, or books stacked neatly on a shelf help guests imagine living in the space. These smaller touches create emotional connection alongside the broader room views.

Use a Tripod for Sharpness
Interiors often have lower light, and hand-holding the camera can result in slight blur. Using a tripod allows you to shoot at slower shutter speeds without sacrificing sharpness. This is especially useful if you’re relying on natural light rather than artificial lighting setups.
