People Pay a Premium for Pet-friendly Property

By February 16, 2021 No Comments

Airbnb guests now have more amenity options than ever before when it comes to booking their perfect stay and research shows that people are paying more for pet-friendly spaces.

In 2020, the number of Australians adopting and fostering pets since the COVID-19 restrictions were introduced have exploded.  Nationally, petrescue.com.au  reports 63,621 pets found homes through Pet Rescue alone in Australia in 2020.

Animal Medicines Australia showed that Australian households are estimated to have spent over $13 billion on pet services and products in 2019. In 2019, 30% of households with dogs and 21% of households with cats have pet insurance. Dog owners spent the most, with an estimated average of $1627 spent per animal each year.

With pets being a major part of the Australian family unit, it’s probably a good idea to consider making your short-term accommodation pet-friendly. At this point in time, an increasing number of guests see pet-friendly accommodation as an Airbnb essential.

Many of our clients ask; “How can I make my property pet friendly?”.  Our recommendations include making sure you have a secure yard or courtyard, check if your building strata or body corporate will accept pets in the property bi-laws, easy-clean furnishings and easy pet access to outdoor areas.  To find out more on how to list your property as “Pet-friendly” CONTACT US
